I’m super excited to share this delicious detox water recipe with you! Lately I’ve been on a water binge. Sounds silly, but I’ve been trying to consume 80-100 oz. of water per day. That means getting very creative with flavoring my water, and many many trips to the bathroom (I pee every 15 min.. not joking) Lets start with some background.. the words “Detox” and “Toxins” had little meaning to me a few weeks ago. After doing some research about the benefits of Detox Water, and just water in general.. they now have a new meaning!
Your body is actually pretty good at detoxifying without the help of any expensive supplements.. all you need is water and fruit! Also, one of the great things about these detox water recipes is that they sweeten up your water and also help you increase your daily intake of water, thus satisfying your sugar cravings and keeping you from running to the cookie jar instead. Try to be strict about your drinking, & the extra hydration that detox water provides will make you feel full longer, which in turn helps you to lose weight. And lastly, many of the ingredients in detox water recipes are meant to give you an extra dose of vitamins and a nice boost to your metabolism.
So what are you actually “detoxing” and what are these “toxins” in your body? This is something I didn’t really understand at first until I did some research.
When you hear the word “toxins,” it’s referring to two different forms of harmful substances in your body. Environmental toxins & Metabolic toxins. Environmental toxins come from elements like pollution. Chemical pesticides used on the apple you ate are an example of an environmental toxin. Metabolic toxins are made inside your body. These toxins include illnesses, like a virus or a bacterial infection. So fruit infused water essentially helps flush your system of this crud!
I can 100% say I have seen a difference in my body. And it’s only been two weeks since I’ve started really focusing on my water intake. I’ve noticed I’ve had more energy, my joints feel less stiff, my skin seems to recover from a blemish faster.. and it helps me feel full longer!
For this detox water I used:
1 full grapefruit, sliced
1 large lemon, sliced
½ cup of strawberries, sliced
Full pitcher of water
Stir, and let it sit for 24 hours
